Form 1 embarked on an journey into the world of ancient Rome through an immersive Roman Day workshop with 'History Off the Page'. Transported back in time to a bustling Roman fort, the children were engrossed in a vivid recreation of life during that era and engaged in hands-on activities such as becoming lamp, leather and metals workers, wax tablet and mosaic workers, scribes, fresco painters, beauticians and charm makers.
Transformed into bustling Romano-Britons, Hinsley Hall served as a vibrant villa near a Roman-occupied town during the Boudican revolt of 60 AD. The children eagerly assumed the roles of apprentices, honing their skills in crafting, trading, and learning while exchanging the latest gossip.
Engaging in role-play, practical activities, and hands-on experiences with authentic Roman replica artefacts, the children were fully immersed in the Roman way of life. Donning the appropriate attire of Roman citizens, slaves, and even barbarians, they delved into the intriguing world of the past. Amidst their endeavours, news of Boudica's triumphant battles, including the destruction of Colchester, London, St Albans, and the formidable IX Legion, reached their ears. This sparked a wave of curiosity as the young Romans pondered the fate of the legion and the safety of their fort.
