A former Team GB para athlete and St John's College School alumnus is more than halfway through a solo skiing expedition to the South Pole.
Jonny Huntington is an inspiring para-skier, climber, and explorer. A former British Army Officer and ultra-distance runner, Jonny faced a life-altering brain bleed in 2014 that left him paralysed on his left side. Through sheer determination and extensive rehab, he returned to elite sports as a disabled athlete, competing for GB in Cross Country Skiing.
Jonny aims to be the first disabled person to journey solo, unsupported, and unassisted from the edge of Antarctica to the South Pole. Jonny has battled against extreme conditions, including 24-hour sunlight, while trekking 911km (566 miles) across the Antarctic. He has been skiing for up to 11 hours a day to cover between 18 and 23km (11 and 14 miles) per day.
He has been dragging all his equipment and food in a sled which weights more than 110kg (17.3st) during the challenge.
Jonny's journey reminds us to look beyond the conventional and let nothing limit our ambition. You can follow Jonny live on his expedition: https://www.jonnyhuntington.com/
