SJCS Team Come 2nd in Coding Contest

The Centre for Computing History was buzzing as eleven local schools, including our St John's team, competed in the Rotary Cambridge Coding Competition 2025, supported by Media Tek. Our team achieved an incredible milestone by securing second place in the coding contest.

The young coders took on the challenge of programming a BBC micro:bit to control a buggy across two tasks of increasing difficulty.

The pre-assembled buggies, equipped with sensors for line and obstacle direction and a BBC micro:bit header, offered teams a hands-on experience. Using the micro:bit's interface, the teams explored these features, culminating in a lively and friendly race.

The coding contest provided a fantastic platform young minds to showcase their coding talents and teamwork skills - a day of learning, resilience and innovation. The contest was also featured in Cambridge Independent's article.

I was so impressed by the level of teamwork between these youngsters, and especially the leadership skills of some of the girls - which goes to support getting more women interested in STEM subjects.
