Form 4 put on a captivating production at the start of term with 'A Night of Heroes, Monsters and Pirates', showcasing their incredible talents in not just one, but three extraordinary plays. With their unique spin on classic tales like Robert Louis Stevenson's 'Treasure Island,' Mary Shelley's 'Frankenstein,' and Alexandre Dumas' 'The Three Musketeers,' the children left the audience spellbound. As the rehearsal journey progressed, the children were encouraged to add suggestions as to how each character might be portrayed, or how a certain scene might unfold.
"I wanted the children to feel as involved in every stage as possible with every idea listened to and discussed so, at the end, they could really say that these tales belonged to them as they had a huge part in making them happen and they felt empowered with their Drama journey."
All three plays were also produced 'in the round', with the audience seated on all sides of the stage. The children entered and exited through the audience, which was designed to make the audience feel more engaged and closer to the action. From a performance perspective, the children had to be mindful to keep turning to face 'out' rather than one particular side as they have been used to when performing on the main stage. Cleverly choreographed visual and verbal humour, as well as the children's use of the suspension of disbelief, kept each of the three plots moving along apace with excellent use of props and confident character interaction throughout.
"The final performance was amazing, everyone was so much more melodramatic than before and I thought it went so well. I really enjoyed all the planning with the costumes and the makeup looked really good and it just made the play better."
"I loved being part of this play because it was so engaging as everybody had a good solo or ensemble part. It was super fun and I can't wait until my next play."
