An action-packed trip to Leicester Tigers Rugby Football Club served to inspire some of our Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Formers to strive to become the premiership rugby stars of the future. The day began with an intensive coaching session run by Leicester Tigers’ Academy Coaches, which focused on handling, defensive organisation, tackling and evasive running skills.
The boys benefited from the considerable knowledge and expertise of the Academy Coaches and the session started with a warm-up followed by progressive ball handling and passing skills. The boys were treated to a masterclass in defensive organisation, before a talk about the discipline, diet, nutrition and conditioning required of any aspiring rugby player. Fred Tuilagi, a Leicester Tigers player, signed autographs for our boys and they were also lucky enough to receive a free Leicester Tigers T-shirt for attending the coaching session.
In the afternoon the group travelled to Leicester Tigers home ground at Welford Road to watch the Premiership match, Leicester Tigers vs Worcester Warriors. During half time the boys experienced the Premiership’s atmosphere first-hand when they stood underneath the posts in front of a crowd of 26,000 spectators before having their photo taken with Tigers player, Brendan O’Connor. The day culminated with an 11 try thriller which ended 37-44 to Worcester.
