St John's celebrated Christmas Jumper Day with both staff and pupils eager to join in. With an array of reindeer, Santas and even the odd Grinch everyone looked festive-tastic!
Pupils were encouraged to wear their favourite Christmas jumpers alongside their uniform for the small fee of £2. We were delighted to have raised over £700 for Jimmy's Cambridge.
We had such a fun day wearing our Christmas jumpers and we were able to raise money for charity too at such an important time of the year.
Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, Jimmy's supports people experiencing homelessness, providing both accommodation and wide range of support. Jimmy’s opened in 1995 as Cambridge’s first all year round night shelter and now offers a much wider range of support. It remains one of the most prominent organisations within the community supporting people who have been rough sleeping in the city.
The organisation was inspired by Jim Dilley, who spent much of his life sleeping rough. In the last few years of his life, ‘home’ for Jim was under the bridge at Junction 13 of the M11. That bridge is still represented in Jimmy’s logo. Its ethos has remained the same – placing people at the heart of the support we provide.
Jimmy’s staff work with each person to provide options, tools and skills to support them on their journey, developing a tailored pathway to independence. The charity recognises the need for everyone to be treated in a confidential manner and with respect, compassion, and empathy.
I loved seeing all the teachers with their Christmas jumpers on! It was so much fun and very colourful.
This special day also coincided with Christmas lunch and our incredibly hard-working catering team pulled out all the stops to provide the most delicious of feasts for us all before an afternoon of entertainment with the Byron House Panto and St John's Got Talent at Senior House.
