A group of Senior House pupils embraced the opportunity to immerse themselves in French culture during an unforgettable few days to Northern France over the Easter break. The journey began with a ferry from Dover, followed by a refreshing stop at the beach in Berck before arriving at Le Château du Broutel, a picturesque estate nestled on the outskirts of the historic town of Rue.
From day one, the children engaged in hands-on learning, mastering the art of making mayonnaise and whipping up delicious crêpes. Their cultural experience extended beyond the kitchen with visits to Amiens, where they explored the city's impressive cathedral and vibrant streets.
Beyond sightseeing, the trip was filled with engaging activities. The children built fires and shelters during camp craft sessions, enjoyed lively evenings of bingo and quizzes, and even celebrated a special birthday together. A visit to an artisanal chocolatier in Beussent, and an excursion to a goat farm gave them a deeper understanding of French traditions.
The experience not only provided a rich cultural exchange but also helped the children strengthen their French language skills, creating a foundation for future learning.
The children were in an environment where they were encouraged to communicate in French while having a great time doing a large range of different activities.
With memories of great food, exploration, and new cultural adventures, this educational experience will be one to cherish for years to come.
