SJCS Ski Trip to La Thuile in Italy

Body

Our annual St John's ski trip to La Thuile in Italy – a time of adventure, laughter, and learning unfolded in the breathtaking alpine surroundings of La Thuile Ski Resort, as some of our Senior House children embarked on an exhilarating ski trip that combined daily lessons, fun-filled evenings, and lasting memories.

Blessed with brilliant clear blue skies for the majority of the tme, the young skiers spent their days in ski schools, navigating the slopes and developing their skills under expert guidance. After hours of training, the fun continued off the snow with a variety of après-ski evening activities—from pizza night to karaoke, bingo, and even a chocolate fondue feast.

One of the most heartwarming moments came at the trip’s grand finale: a presentation ceremony recognising the children's achievements. Certificates were awarded in categories such as Most Improved, Resilience, The Thompson Award, Funniest Moments, Storyteller, and even Unicorn in the Airport, adding an element of joy and celebration to their progress.

Beyond skiing, the children embraced the vibrant local culture, indulging in ice cream, shopping, and après-ski traditions. They wore quirky helmet covers and swapped the funniest stories from the slopes. A snowball fight on the final day proved to be an unforgettable highlight, showcasing their spirit of camaraderie and playfulness.

More than just a school trip, La Thuile provided invaluable lessons. The children learned perseverance, teamwork, and adaptability as they tackled the challenges of skiing. They built friendships across year groups, gained confidence, and discovered the beauty of the mountains—taking home not only awards but also an experience that will stay with them forever.

As they bid farewell to La Thuile, the echoes of laughter and the crunch of fresh snow beneath their skis were a testament to a trip well spent—one that left them with newfound skills and cherished memories.
