Our Sixth Form concluded the Lent term with their performance of the 'Passion Play', retelling the Easter story of Jesus' final days with emotion and conviction. This annual St John's tradition is more than just a dramatic retelling - it is an opportunity for reflection, growth, and understanding through the children's heartfelt performances, and moments of solemn reflection.
We welcomed pupils and staff from King's Ely for our annual Jazz Evening. Their Jazz Band performed pieces including 'Batman', 'The Pink Panther' and other classics, in the first half of the concert. After the interval, the SJCS Big Band and the King's Ely Jazz Band combined to perform 'The Man in the Mirror' and a Harry Potter medley. SJCS pupils continued with various solo and Rednotes ensemble items, ranging from Hoagy Carmichael and Billy Joel to Phil Collins and Dua Lipa.
The two House Cross Country events for Form 4 and also Forms 5 and 6 saw the pupils come together in a celebration of perseverance, teamwork, and inclusivity. With both short and long courses available, every child had the chance to contribute to their House.
Over the course of two memorable evenings, our Form 5 delivered an outstanding production of 'The Wizard of Oz', showcasing their dedication, skill, and enthusiasm for the performing arts. With two separate casts bringing their own unique energy to the stage, the performances were a testament to the children's hard work and the unwavering support of their teachers and production team.
The Centre for Computing History was buzzing as eleven local schools, including our St John's team, competed in the Rotary Cambridge Coding Competition 2025, supported by Media Tek. Our team achieved an incredible milestone by securing second place in the coding contest.
The young coders took on the challenge of programming a BBC micro:bit to control a buggy across two tasks of increasing difficulty.
2H spent a fantastic day at the Norfolk Coast visiting the Sea Life Centre and the beach for their child-led topic on Seas and Oceans. They learnt about ways to protect the ecosystems of our oceans.
The St John's community was treated to an incredibly special informal lunchtime concert when renowned a capella group, 'The King's Barbers', from King's Ely performed a repertoire of their songs. Our Senior House Chamber Choir performed a 3-part arrangement of 'The Wellerman', a shanty which has seen renewed popularity in recent years.
Our Parents’ Association revived the popular SJCS Quiz Night where teams battled for first place to win a bottle of prosecco and a plant and, of course, the glory! The SJCS PA wishes to thank the School, guests and everyone involved for a successful and joyful evening, and are delighted to announce that over £1,000 was raised for three of their chosen charities.
The Gymnastics and Dance Show was a new initiative this year, providing a platform for pupils who enthuse in gymnastics and dance. After attending lunchtime clubs, some of our Senior House pupils performed their self-led choreography for the evening display. Form 2 also performed an improvised piece, based on work in their Dance lessons.
The St John's team raised over £2,000 for the School's Bursary Fund after running the Cambridge Half Marathon on Sunday 9th March.
